Connectors

When connecting your EV to a charging station, there are different connectors that are compatible with certain manufacturers or ‘Level’ of charger. The vehicle you have will require one of the following connectors:

  • J1772: Standard connector for Level 1 and Level 2 chargers.Provides single-phase charging. Not as prevalent in newer EVs, which are moving towards the CCS standard.
  • Mennekes: Standard for Level 2 AC charging. Used by most manufacturers, including Nissan, BMW, Hyundai, and Mercedes-Benz.
  • CCS (Combined Charging System): Used for DC Fast Charging; supports both AC and DC charging. Common in newer EV models from brands like Tesla, BMW, Ford, and Volkswagen.
  • CHAdeMO: Another fast charging standard primarily for Japanese brands.

Tesla: Tesla vehicles require a proprietary connector; Tesla Superchargers are not compatible with any other EVs.
